An integrated approach to player development

High-level tennis is built from more than clean strokes. Our coaches assess the complete player: movement quality, technical efficiency, playing identity, decision-making, competitive habits and the ability to perform repeatedly under pressure. Training plans target the areas that will make the greatest difference in competition.

On-court work includes high-intensity drilling, serve and return patterns, point construction, transition play and scenario-based match practice. Players learn how to use their strengths, recognise patterns earlier and compete with a clear purpose. Where appropriate, coaches also guide scheduling, tournament preparation and post-match review.

Experience behind every session

Head coach Dane Nebel brings more than four decades of playing, coaching and team-management experience. His career includes an ATP ranking of 583, a top-ten Australian ranking, three consecutive state grade titles as captain and multiple Premier League and ATL titles as a coach and manager.

That experience shapes a high-performance environment where standards are clear and progress is earned. Entry is based on playing level, attitude, training habits and goals. Players must be ready to take responsibility for their preparation and apply feedback between sessions. For the right athlete, DNTA provides a serious pathway without leaving Melbourne’s west.

Assessment and training expectations

High Performance placement begins with a conversation and on-court assessment. DNTA considers current results, technical needs, physical readiness, weekly training load and the player’s longer-term objectives. Families and athletes should expect honest feedback about priorities and workload. The program works best when squad sessions, individual practice, competition and recovery support the same development plan.
