A positive first step into tennis
Learning tennis should feel exciting, not intimidating. Our coaches introduce each skill in clear stages, using age-appropriate equipment, modified courts and practical games to help players rally sooner. Younger children develop coordination, balance and racquet control, while teens and adults work on dependable technique, movement and an understanding of how points are played.
Every session combines instruction with activity. Players practise forehands, backhands, serves and volleys, then apply those skills in cooperative rallies and simple point play. Small-group coaching gives each player useful feedback without taking away the social side of the lesson.
Coaching that grows with the player
Participation is a genuine development pathway, not a one-size-fits-all class. Coaches adjust exercises to suit the group and help each player set achievable goals. Progress may mean holding a longer rally, serving with greater consistency, understanding scoring or feeling ready to join social match play.
DNTA runs coaching across Point Cook, Werribee, Sunshine North and Melton, making it easier for families to find a convenient venue in Melbourne’s west. Players who want a greater challenge can move into the Competition Program when their skills, confidence and interest are ready.
Who the Participation Program suits
This program suits children beginning with Hot Shots-style activities, teenagers learning for fun, adults trying tennis for the first time and former players returning after time away. No previous match experience is required. Before enrolment, the DNTA team can discuss age, experience, confidence and preferred location so the player joins a group where they can participate comfortably and continue improving.
